About the PNG to JPG Converter

PNG uses lossless compression, which preserves every pixel perfectly but results in large files — particularly for photographs. JPG applies lossy compression that discards some image data to achieve much smaller sizes, typically 60–80% smaller than the equivalent PNG for photographic content. The trade-off is that transparent areas are flattened (usually to white) and there is some mild quality reduction, which is imperceptible at high quality settings.

When to use this tool

Social media uploads Reduce a large PNG screenshot or graphic to a smaller JPG before uploading to Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook.
Email attachments Convert PNG photos to JPG so they fall under email attachment limits without needing to crop or resize.

Tips for best results

  • Transparent areas in your PNG will be filled with a white background after conversion to JPG — plan accordingly.
  • For the sharpest text and line art, avoid converting to JPG — the compression artefacts are most visible on clean edges. Use WEBP instead for a better size/quality ratio.
  • JPG compression is applied during the conversion — the output quality is set to high (90%) to minimise visible artefacts.

FAQs

There is some quality reduction because JPG uses lossy compression. ConvertFast uses a high quality setting (90%) which keeps the output visually near-identical to the source for most images, particularly photos.

JPG does not support transparency, so any transparent pixels are composited onto a white background. If your image has a transparent background, it will appear white in the output.

For photographs, JPG is typically 3–5× smaller than PNG. For graphics with large flat-colour areas, the difference may be smaller. The exact size depends on the image content and complexity.

The upload limit is 10 MB per file. If your PNG exceeds this, try reducing its dimensions in an image editor before uploading.

Currently ConvertFast processes one file at a time. To convert multiple images, use the converter multiple times — each conversion only takes a few seconds.
